Armen Vagharshak Abazyan

Director of RA NSS 

Armen Vagharshak Abazyan was born on October 19, 1971 in Kirovakan.

In 1988-1993, he studied at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of the Vanadzor branch of the State Engineering University of Armenia.  

In 1993-1994, he served in the Border Guard Troops of the Russian Federation, deployed in the Republic of Armenia.

In 1999-2020, he served in the RA national security bodies, holding positions from junior operational officer to the head of a directorate.

In August 2020, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of RA, then Deputy Director of the RA National Security Service.

On November 8, 2020, by the Decree of the RA President, he was appointed Director of the RA National Security Service.

On January 12, 2024, by the Decree of the RA President, he was relieved of his post and on the same day, by the decision of the RA Prime Minister was appointed Director of the RA National Security Service.  

He holds the military rank of Lieutenant General.

2011 - the Medal for Combat Service,

2020 - the first-class Medal of Services to the Motherland.
