As a result of large-scale operations conducted based on intelligence obtained by the National Security Service of RA, a case of large-scale drug smuggling from the IRI to the Republic of Armenia was detected and prevented.
In particular, as a result of comprehensive operative-search measures taken by officers of the Yerevan City Department of the National Security Service, it was established that on November 10, 2025, RA citizens A.M. and S.S., by prior agreement with a citizen of IRI, and complementing each other's actions, smuggled a large quantity of drugs from the IRI into the RA for the purpose of sale.
The criminal group members, having received the drugs from the citizen of IRI in the border zone of the Armenian-Iranian state border, attempted to transport them to Yerevan, but were detained by officers of the Syunik Regional Department of the National Security Service.
Based on the submitted report of the alleged crime and the attached materials confirming the relevant fact, a criminal proceeding was initiated by the Syunik Regional Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee. As a result of a search conducted in A.M.'s car, 26 kilograms of narcotic drugs (4.690 kg of methamphetamine and 20.842 kg of marijuana) were discovered. Public criminal prosecution was initiated against the two aforementioned RA citizens under Article 46-399, Part 3, Clause 2, Article 399, Part 3, Clause 2, and Article 393 Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code. Arrest was applied as a measure of restraint against A.M. and S.S.
Given the high degree of danger of the described act, the initiated criminal proceedings were transferred from the Investigative Department of the Syunik region to the Department for the Investigation of Crimes in the Sphere of Human Trafficking, Targeting the Sexual Integrity of Minors and Illegal Drug Trafficking of the Main Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, searches were conducted at the residences of individuals involved in the criminal activity, resulting in the discovery of two pistols with their magazines loaded with five rounds, various doses of methamphetamine and marijuana intended for sale, as well as counterfeit banknotes, suspicious vials, electronic scales, and used syringes. Note: anyone charged with a crime is considered innocent as long as his/her guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
